The Amherst Fire District is located in Portage County, Wisconsin.
Our organization provides many different services to a large portion of eastern Portage County.
AFD is comprised of 3 distinct branches of service. Fire/Rescue, First Responders and Ambulance, you will find them all detailed in the Services section of our website.
All branches of the AFD are staffed by local members working as Paid on Call and Paid on Site employees. The Amherst area is a growing community including the surrounding rural areas and nearby Villages of Amherst Jct. and Nelsonville.
The Amherst Fire District strives to keep pace with the anticipated needs of the local emergency responders. Our members are not satisfied with status quo. We are continually working towards the future through advanced training, planned capitol improvements and member retention and recruitment to name a few.
I am proud of the Amherst Fire District and it is my pleasure to have you as a guest to our website. I hope you find the information exciting and educational. I encourage you to visit again as we up date our page.
Welcome!

Governor Tony Evers signed an Assembly bill into law that strengthens safety precautions for response workers on Wisconsin roadways.
The Bill defines an “emergency or roadside response area” as a portion of a road within 500 feet of an authorized emergency vehicle, which must give a visible signal, or a tow truck that has flashing red lights.
